Week 7
This week on my rotation I had the pleasure of working around senior citizens. Seniors are a special group of people. Seniors can teach everything they know which will improve your life because they have been there and done that, which is pretty much the same thing as evolution. The best part about this week was working the NC Senior Games. I met some interesting people while there. One athlete named Reese Cain is 78 years old runs three miles a day, lifts weights afterwards, plays ping pong, and softball.I piled up 29.5 hours at the senior center.

week 6
This week the stop on my rotation was J. Bayard Clark Park & Nature Center. When I first got there on Monday I knew something was a little different about this place because my internship supervisor usually stays around for a little bit but this time she was out of there in a hurry. So I explored the place a little bit and found out why she was in such a hurry, the nature center had snakes and alligators in it. My first duty once I got there was to clean the snake tanks, which was interesting considering I'm not to accustom with dealing with snakes. But I did it anyway and got over that fear. The best part about this place was I got to enjoy nature while learning about it. I even got to play with alligators for a little while, I piled up 47 hours.

Week 5
I know that my last two entries are late but all the information that I've taken in from both places overwhelmed me. This week I was at Kiwanis Recreation Center, this place is grand central station when it comes to rec centers. From the time I walked in on Monday afternoon till I walked out on Saturday afternoon, that place was non stop. The first three days I was there they were hosting a spring break camp for the children. They had open gym everyday and people participated everyday. I definitely got more experience with a program called rec track, which is the software the city uses to registrar and keep track of all participants in there programs. While there I had a run of bad luck, my second day a lady backed into my car while in the parking lot. I complied 26.5 hrs which doesn't seem like a lot but once you've been in this place that long its longer than you realize due to how much stuff is going on at one time.
Week 4
This week on my rotation I went to Smith Recreation Center. This center has a lot of history, the center was brought into a low income area to help reach out to the community. Les Thorne is the supervisor at Smith Rec Center and even though I was only there a short amount of time, I learned more about what it takes to be a community and a good center supervisor. "If you have good programs, who are run by good people, then they will run themselves." Les Thorne. I only complied 14 hrs there because i went home for easter on Thursday, but its a place that I would love to go back to and learn more.

Week 3
The third stop on my rotation was the College Lakes rec center. At this center my duties were pretty much the same as others but I was a little more active here than at my prior two. The first day I was there I had to opportunity to work the baseball/softball draft, which was an experience because I really didn't think the draft for children would be as serious as it was. They made the children go through skills assesments like they do for the pro's. So that was an experience and Saturday the rec center had a big easter egg hunt. Guess who got the pleasure of being the bunny at the easter egg hunt. Thats right I sure did, I piled up 23 hours this week.

Week 2
This week as part of my rotation to the different rec centers I was assigned the Pine Forest Rec Center, which is one of the oldest centers here in Fayetteville. I was able to get more in depth work with the database and I also gained some experience in conflict resolution as well. Since we were suppose to be on spring break i didn't work as many hours. I complied 21.5 hours this past week.

First Week
This photo doesn't mean "jack to me" just learning to upload photos.
February 25th I started my internship with the parks and recreation of Fayetteville, NC. There are two major issues why I got started so late in my internship. My supervisor had death in her family and she became ill with the flu and bronchitis. So it took her longer than we both expected to get back in contact with me about a starting date, but once she got back with me i started the following week. When I arrived at the center i was given instructions on what i was going to be doing that day due to the fact that the rec center supervisor was off. So Monday and days following i worked with the after school program at East Over Central Rec Center. So my basic duties from 1 to 5:30 were to setup the room for the children and then help with homework and then take them to the gym until their parents arrived to pick them up. From 5:30 to 9 my duties changed over to the normal duties of a rec center worker. I assisted in registering children for springs sports, aided in set up and break down of scheduled events, and entering files into the database. I really didn't get a lot of experience with the database because all this week was the last week to register children for sports so every time they tried to teach me we had another wave of parents coming in. I believe that in just one week over 100 children registered for the spring sports. I complied 42 hrs this week, Monday and Tuesday i was there from 1 to 5; Wednesday through Friday i was there 1 to 9 and Saturday because it was the last day to register i went in to help out with the registration from 9 to 5.
